Obviously this is going to be a critically important page here. Edit as needed. Or desired.

Foozles are genetically engineered genderfluid alien clone sex toys that were never brought to market.

Pleasure explains Foozles to the narrator

Origin

Foozles were developed as companion units by a robotics company on Orvinia. [1] The company's products had a reputation for unreliability, so they set out to design a self-repairing model. The research division shifted focus from self-repairing mechanical robots to biological ones with the ability to heal.

Initial prototype

The first Foozle was designed on an entirely custom genome to be small, friendly, appealing, able to change its gender, and able to heal. The prototype was grown in a cloning tank for several months, decanted, named Zero, and began product testing.

Self-development

Zero scavenged castoff technology from the labs he was being trained and tested in. By connecting parts from a teleporter and a replicator he was able to scan himself in, make changes to his design, then teleport himself to overwrite his genetic code with the new design. Many of the features associated with Foozles came from Zero's self-upgrades; increased sex drive, additional erogenous zones, charisma.

Replication

When Zero felt the Foozle design was idealized, six copies were created using the replicator. These six took the names of Spice, Spark, Tickle, Custard, Wiggle, and Bon-Bon.

Product termination

Management of the corporation designing the Foozles were aghast at the implications of Zero's self-replication, as this meant that the Foozles would now be recognised as a sentient race, and that the company was now essentially trafficking in slaves. Fearing a public backlash, they packed all of the relevant material into a freighter and programmed the ship's autopilot to crash into their local sun, destroying any evidence of their wrongdoing.

This included all scientific materials detailing the research that resulted in the creation of Zero, memorandums sent back and forth about the implications of the Foozles self-replicating, sleep capsules that held the existing Foozles in suspended animation, and the replication machine Zero had rigged together.

However, the ship never reached its intended destination.

Discovery and reintroduction

The ship drifted aimlessly through space for centuries, gradually decaying into a battered derelict. It eventually crossed into local space lanes where it was detected by a salvage team, who boarded the ship, then found and released the Foozles from their slumber. After being recognised as sentient beings by the Stellar Alliance, The Foozles continued to reproduce themselves, grow in number and put their technical expertise to use. Their catalog of inventions and patents allowed them to begin to generate a pool of funds, with which they purchased themselves a homeworld, the planet now known as Boink.

Physical Characteristics

Foozles resemble teddy bears with antennae and fluffy tails.

All Foozles are generated identical; they are white, and four feet tall.

Foozles dye themselves different colors for fashion, and their height does change somewhat based on environment; a Foozle that has spent a lot of time in heavy gravity will be a bit shorter, for instance.

Gender

Foozles are capable of swapping gender at will. They can express male, female, or hermaphroditic primary and secondary sexual characteristics. It is also possible for a Foozle to consciously adjust the size of her bust or genitals.

Reproduction

Foozles are not capable of breeding. Their sexual equipment is for amusement use, not reproduction. All Foozles are made in generation machines, based on the original developed by Zero. Zero's uploaded matrix is still used; every Foozle's first words on stepping out of the machine are 'Did it work?'

Mental Characteristics

Foozles all have a genius-level intellect, being clones of Zero. Observational data seems to indicate they can be easily distracted at times and singularly obsessive over a goal at others.

Temperament

It is not known if it was designed into Foozles from the start, if Zero adjusted his personality with his experiments, or they just turned out that way, but Foozles seem to have a mildly submissive personality. They appear to seek out a master, but are not afraid to tell that master off if it seems appropriate.

Common Skills

Being clones of Zero, all Foozles are trained in janitorial and cleaning skills, and have practical skill in assembling teleporters, replicators, and Foozle-making machines.
