The public fund is a savings account maintained by Boink's government.
Money In
Industries operating on Boink pay money into the fund depending on their status:
- Government run businesses operate as not-for-profit industries and pay all net profits (after expenses) into the fund.
- Non-Government run businesses pay a monthly license fee to operate which is paid directly into the fund, calculated to ten percent of their gross profit for the previous month.
Money Out
Money in the public fund is used for a number of purposes:
- Maintaining public infrastructure
- Funding scientific endeavors
- Paying Universal Basic Income to residents
- Promoting tourism
It should be noted that the public fund is not used to pay salaries to government employees, above and beyond the standard UBI payment that all residents receive.
